Description
Haydn’s Fantasia in C Major Hob. XVII/4, was compose in 1789. The music is dominated by the spirit of improvisation or, as Carl Ferdinand Pohl (Haydn’s biographer) expressed it, by “the merriment of the carnival.” This work is based on the folk song Do Bauren bat d’Katz valor’n (The Farmer’s Wife Cannot Find the Cat), which provides the main melodic material.
